The Energy Internet is a new type of ecological energy system, which integrates the concept and technology of Internet with the production transmission, storage, consumption and energy market. Based on the power system, energy internet takes the utilization of renewable energy coordination of multiple energy sources, interaction of supply and consumption simultaneous development of concentration and distribution, and wide participation of the public to achieve the optimal allocation of energy flow, information flow, business flow, capital flow and value flow, and to promote the energy system higher quality, more efficient, more fair and more sustainable.
In response to the national action call of " Energy Revolution, and " Internet + promoting the academic research, technological development and industrial cultivation Energy Internet, Tsinghua University strategically deployed Energy Internet Research Institute, Tsinghua University(THEIRI for short as well as Tsinghua Sichuan Energy Internet Research Institute. In April 2015, under the strong support of National Energy Administration Energy Internet Research Institute, Tsinghua University was officially established in Beijing, becoming the first professional Energy Internet research institute in China.
THERI has devoted itself to developing the comprehensive advantages of multiple grossed disciplines of Electric, Materials, Thermal Energy, Nuclear Energy, Water Conservancy, Information, Environment and Architecture in Tsinghua. It is committed to making THERI an important center of talent cultivation, technology innovation, and industrial aggregation, and striving to be an influential new generation think tank on strategic decision of Energy Internet for the in china and even in the whole world.
THEIRI mainly focuses on the research of energy strategy and policy, innovative planning and design of energy system, engineering solution and application offering, etc. Meanwhile, supported by the superior scientific and research forces in Tsinghua University, such as Electrical Engineering, THEIRI has set up 1 research center 3 research lab in succession, covering the main directions and areas of the academic research and technological development of Energy Internet. In addition, THEIR has actively promoted the establishment of the China Energy Internet Alliance(CEIA), and served as its secretariat. THEIRI has played an important role to promote Energy Internet in interpreting the relevant national policies, aggregating technology innovation forces, pushing forward industry’s healthy development, etc.
Since its inception, THEIRI has undertaken considerable national level research projects on Internet Smart Energy participated in formulation of several national policies of technology and industry development of Energy Internet, and successfully gained many new technology achievements in Energy Internet THERI will continue stride forward with great strength on the path of advancing the academic prosperity, technological innovation and industrial development of Energy Intenet!

Sichuan Energy Internet Research Institute, Tsinghua University (hereinafter referred to as the "Institute") was established in March 2016 and is jointly established by Tsinghua University and Sichuan Province. By relying on the Department of Electrical Engineering, the Department of Energy and Power Engineering, the School of Civil Engineering, the School of Software, and the Department of Automotive Engineering of Tsinghua University, the Institute is committed to implementing the strategic thinking of "Four Revolutions and One Cooperation (promoting the energy consumption revolution, the energy supply revolution, the energy technology revolution, and the energy system revolution, and strengthening international cooperation in an all-round way)" of energy proposed by the General Secretary Xi Jinping, building a clean, low-carbon, safe and efficient energy system, and actively carrying out frontier research and industrial cultivation of the energy Internet.
As an important technical support, an exchange platform and a carrier unit of "2 + 2" cooperation among Tsinghua University, Sichuan province, the University of Washington of the United States, and the Washington State of the United States in the field of the construction of "Climate-Smart/Low-Carbon Cities", the Institute actively responds to the call of "Energy Revolution" and "Internet +", to acquire outstanding talents in energy related fields at home and abroad, vigorously promote interdisciplinary integration, carry out research on core technologies of energy Internet and enhance the commercialization of research results, and build a talent hub, a technological innovation center and an industrial development new heights for energy Internet new business format, aiming at improving China's energy support and guarantee capacity, facilitating the adjustment of China's energy structure, promoting the energy conservation and emission reduction of the whole society as well as the upgrading of energy consumption, expanding international cooperation in energy resources, and accelerating China's energy science and technology innovation.
Centering on the four main research directions of energy production and consumption, deep integration of energy and information, large-scale energy storage and hydrogen utilization as well as energy strategy and market mechanism, the Institute has introduced a total of 32 high-level research teams, bringing together more than 300 high-level talents at home and abroad, building a hi-tech talent team of “high level, rapid development and great potential”.
Since its establishment, the Institute has made remarkable achievements in promoting collaborative innovation of government, industry, university, research and application in the field of energy and international cooperation in the energy industry with the support of leaders at all levels from Tsinghua University as well as Tianfu New Area, Chengdu City and Sichuan Province. More than 50 innovative products have mainly been developed in the field of energy Internet, 252 patents have been applied, with 13 international patents, and 13 hi-tech innovative enterprises have been successfully incubated. Among them, ConvenientPower Systems, which is valued over RMB 1 billion, held multiple patents in global wireless charging, climbed the list of the 100 key enterprises of Chengdu new economy in 2018 and was selected as one of 60 gazelle companies in China by People.cn, being one of the leading wireless charging enterprises in the world; Sichuan industrial big data innovation center undertaken by K2Data is identified by Sichuan as one of the first three manufacturing innovation centers.
